Bismillah Khan born was on 21 march 1916, Khan hailed from a family of musicians.
His father was a court musician employed in the Dumraon palace by the Raja of Dumraon.
His great grandfather Ustad Salar Hussain Khan and grandfather Rasool Baksh
Khan were also musicians in the Dumraon palace.
His ancestors were court musicians and used to play in Naqqar khana in the princely states of Dumraon , now in Bihar. Bismillah Khan performed at the Red Fort on India's Independence Day and also on the first Republic Day ceremony on January 26, 1950.
